DUO joins the battle against COVID-19

The innovative DUO formwork system contributed to the creation of TrainerWall - the “portable” filter chamber created to protect healthcare workers from Covid 19. TrainerWall is a portable, easy to assemble filter chamber that guides the undressing of healthcare workers and reduces the risk of contagion from Covid 19. The chamber was designed by an innovative start-up of the University of Brescia Italian Technology Lab (ITL) with the collaboration of the hospital doctor Vincenzo Cennamo from Bologna.
Polytech contributed to the creation of the TrainerWall by providing the external structure made with the panels of the universal formwork DUO. Thanks to the lightness and uncomplicated assembling of the system, the chamber can be put together by 2 technicians in just 2 hours. TrainerWall can have different configurations and can thus adapt to different contexts thanks to the versatility of the use of the panels. The chamber will be useful to facilitate the undressing of hospital staff who work in Covid sub-intensive care units.
Inside the TrainerWall, healthcare personnel is guided in the undressing and correct removal of PPE (such as gloves, masks, gowns and shoes) using lights, colours, audio and other devices. Simple and intuitive instructions help the personnel to avoid procedural errors caused by tiredness at the end of the shift or by the lack of specific in-depth training. The TrainerWall therefore represents an innovative aid in the fight against Covid-19 and the containment of possible infections in healthcare environments.
SKYMAX as a highlight at Bautec Berlin fair
At the Bautec 2020 in Berlin, PERI presented innovative and practical formwork and scaffolding solutions. Large-panel slab formwork SKYMAX was one of two special highlights this year.
Bautec in Berlin is an international trade fair for building and construction technology which this this year took place on 18-21st of February. PERI presented a wide range of products, however two special highlights were COBOD 3D concrete printer and the new large-panel slab formwork SKYMAX, polymer option of which was created by Polytech. Our multi-award-winning system DUO was also present at the fair.
SKYMAX – multifunctional and safe solution
PERI SKYMAX is a new large-panel slab formwork that works as a modular system. The ability to install SKYMAX from the level below allows a particularly high level of safety at a construction site.
The multifunctional, aluminium and polymer-based SKYMAX slab formwork system offers a wide range of adaptable combination options. You will be able to combine panels, support heads and other system components in many ways.
Due to the small number of different system components, planning and using SKYMAX is extremely easy. The combination of panel and head follows a self-explanatory system. The assembly can therefore be learned quickly and without much training.
Concrete house was built entirely with DUO
A bold concrete structure became PERI’s first housing project in the UK. The entire house has been formed using DUO, a technopolymer plastic formwork system. The project disrupted many traditional methods of construction, making them more efficient and convenient for the workers. DUO panels were used for horizontal and vertical applications to form slabs, columns and walls. Taking into consideration the location and confined space of the structure the lightweight panels were perfect for the project. The site workers did not use a crane, instead they lifted and moved the panels around the site by hand. In addition, DUO aligned with project developer’s Adrian’s Corrigall’s vision of reducing waste during construction as all the raw material is 100% recyclable and can be reused in the production of new panels, making it a sustainable alternative. ‘'DUO works in perfect harmony with the experimental concrete mixes we are using in that both reduce labour and material costs, reduce the project’s carbon footprint and are definitive steps forward in construction methodology,” – project’s developer and house owner Adrian Corrigall told PERI UK. The DUO system also offered logistical benefits. Due to the weight of the panels, only three lorries were required to deliver material from PERI’s depot to the site. The bold concrete structure, which became a family house of Mr. Corrigall, his wife and three children was featured in multiple magazines, websites and UK TV show Grand Designs.
PERI DUO wins the prize for Product Innovation 2019
DUO has won the Federal Association of Old Building Renovation (BAKA) Product Innovation Award 2019. BAKA along with the Messe München had jointly sponsored the international competition "Old buildings practice – Prize for product innovation" under the auspices of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) for the ninth time. Working in existing buildings can be challenging because of extremely confined spaces. DUO system is perfect for these situations. First of all, the system is lightweight and can be moved by hand, avoiding the usage of crane. In addition, DUO system consists of different parts which can be put together using mostly manual assembly technologies, without using a hammer, therefore avoiding noise levels which is important in residential areas.
bautec.Innovation Award for PERI DUO, Berlin
The universal composite formwork DUO has received yet another innovation prize; this time at the bautec in Berlin. Regardless whether in France, India or South-West Africa – since its global launch at the last bauma in Munich, PERI DUO has convinced customers and specialist juries around the world.
Polytech starts manufacturing in Malaysia
On the 6th of February Polytech has signed an agreement with Luster Industries Sdn Bhd opening its first manufacturing base in Malaysia for producing its low weight formwork system DUO. Polytech already has two manufacturing bases in Italy and India, therefore the three-year agreement with Luster will further strengthen the DUO formwork system market in the South East Asia (SEA) region. Polytech Managing director Kai Hollmann commented: "Last year we produced 200,000 pieces of DUO formwork system from the two facilities in Italy and India and we hope the new facility will help us to increase our annual total production to 300,000 pieces. Our manufacturing facility in Italy is already full while the facility in India is expected to be totally booked by end of the year thus why we are opening new manufacturing facility in Malaysia". Luster’s deputy managing director Liang Wooi Gee said Luster targets to garner an estimated MYR 12 million in turnover each year for the DUO formwork system manufactures at its factory in Sungai Petani. "We are proud to be chosen to manufacture the innovative product and it is a testament to the good work that Luster is doing in Sungai Petani,"- Mr. Liang said.
